It appears as though it's that time of year again. The time when the Drinks by the Dram Advent Calendars start to hit the shelves. Well, maybe not the shelves as such. These are mostly available online through Master of Malt although there are some smaller retailers selling them. For example, The Whisky Shop Dufftown is selling a Gin Advent Calendar - perfect if you're a gin lover or know someone who is.
This year, I've opted for the Bourbon and American Whiskey calendar*. This is because, although for the most part 2020 has been quite the shit show from a business point of view, it has in turn afforded me plenty of time to do one of the things I never find enough time to do: reading. I love reading. One book I really enjoyed (whilst on a very long train journey) was Dominic Roskow's Whiskey America. I remember he was a guest on the Uncorked podcast and he said that the craft distilling movement across the pond had moved on so quickly that as soon as the book was published, it already needed to be updated. It was still a great read though and it's encouraged me to explore the category further.
So, what better way than with 24 different drams?
Last year, for the Boutique-y Whisky Co. Advent Calendar, I managed to post a mini review of each dram. I'm still working out the best way to approach it this year but am thinking of writing a more in depth review of each dram. Perhaps more out of self interest if nothing else. After all, explaining something to someone else is often a great way to reinforce your own learning.
