Boutique-y Whisky Advent Calendar

Reviewing the Boutique-y Whisky Advent Calendar is a work in progress but I thought that twenty four different blog posts would be a bit much; for both you and me. So I decided to post the drams on here as a weekly round-up with some quick fire tasting notes and a wee score out of five.Scores aren't something I would normally give (on this blog at least) but, as there'll be 24 different drams and this is Christmas, I thought I'd try something new. It'll also help you decide which ones you'd like to read.Just click on each image for the tasting notes.Just so you know, links are commission links to full size bottles (where they're available ...

That Boutique-y Dram Good Club 2: The Revenge

This is the second Dram Good Club box from That Boutique-y Whisky Company which again includes a little something from That Boutique-y Rum Company added for good measure.Once again, this Dram Good Club selection offers something new. I mentioned in a previous post that one of the things which puts me off whisky subscription boxes is that there's a fair chance I've already tried, and possibly even bought, the whisky it includes. So, with the exception of one of these samples, they were all new to me. The exception was the Cotswolds 3 years which I'd tried at the Whisky Fringe in August this year. To be fair though, whereas a whisky festival is a ...

That Boutique-y Whisky Company Advent Calendar

Those kind folk at That Boutique-y Whisky Company sent me this cracking advent calendar. I'm not sure what I did to deserve it but I'm not one to look a gift horse in the mouth. It's been a while since my last whisky advent calendar; maybe two or three years. It's a great idea yet, in all honesty, I didn't manage to enjoy a dram every single day. Sometimes it was easier to save a few up for the weekend and/or share with friends. I guess it doesn't really matter how you play it as long as you're sensible and enjoy the whisky at some point. As someone whose Christmas shopping has been known to involve a scoot around the Booker cash and carry on ...

That Boutiquey Dram Good Club

Being fortunate enough to live in Edinburgh (well, Leith to be precise), I'm only a stone's throw away from a pub with a decent whisky selection, a short walk to a Tesco with plenty of core range bottles to choose from, a short bus ride away from some fantastic whisky shops and an easy drive to plenty of nearby distilleries. It's on this basis that whisky subscription boxes have never really appealed to me. However, I appreciate that's not the case for everyone. I imagine that if I were living somewhere with fewer whisky options, I would look at them differently. For someone starting out on their whisky journey, these subscription boxes could work ...

Whisky and Women

For the second year running, our Whisky and Women event proved to be a great success. The event ran as one of many during the Audacious Women Festival and was, once again, a sell out. Of course, this was due to our fantastic guests as (and I think I pointed this out on the night) I never sell that many tickets when it’s just me!I was delighted when Louise McGuane, founder of The Chapel Gate Irish Whiskey Company, agreed to join us. Having been following the progress of Chapel Gate on social media, I was fascinated by the process of reinstating Irish whiskey bonding to Ireland and by Louise’s determination that this should be done in a ...
